LPHS Community Council and PTSA Board Meeting with
Alpine School District Administrator and
Alpine School District Board Member
October 10, 2012

Presentation by Jess Christian, ASD Administrator

Alpine School District’s theme this year is : “ASD: Great Team, Same Dream.”
Each member of our “Great Team” is important to the students. Certainly teachers play a large role in students’ lives. But we all influence them and cause them to stay focused on the ultimate goal of graduation by:
·         Showing a great example of how good, decent people  behave.
·         Calling them  by name
·         Showing personal interest in them.
·         Taking the time to really listen to them.
·         Assisting them in finding help if they are steering off course.
·         Expecting the best from them.
·         Never, ever giving up on any of them.
We are a great team with the same dream!
Our “Great Team” has the “Same Dream” of assisting each student to be successful in school and to ultimately obtain a high school diploma. This “Dream” is one not only shared by principals and teachers but by all employees of the district.

Questions for discussion:
Expansion of the weight room. We do have a safety issue in the weight room and are concerned that             plans proceed quickly. The argument is made that the state is mandating students take PE so there needs to be a safe place for them to take PE. Thank you for the new gym.

How will the new high school affect the school population.
There will be a committee called about one year prior (fall of 2015) to the building of the school. At this time AF & LP boundaries will be left alone. (Be aware that things can change.) The       communities are encouraged to get involved because the district does listen to parents.

What about Suncrest?  A new school will be opening this fall in Draper.

Curriculum – Once a new curriculum is created it must meet the state core.

Grading Score for Schools – UCASS Utah (1) graduation rate, (2) achievement, and (3) growth
Sub scores are students proficient score or not proficient score based on CRT’s. Only one             measurement, there are other measurements at college such as career readiness and AP scores. Look at             multiple ways of measuring to see what is happening.

Greatest academic need at LP is in the math area. ---David Smith, District Data Specialist, will prepare    a presentation. Our kids are making the expected growth.
